Can a roller blind be cut to size?
Updated
A made to measure roller blind is made to the size on the order, so it is not cut to size at home. Its tube is chosen to suit its width. If a blind comes out the wrong size, tell your retailer, who holds the order and can ask the maker what can be done.
Can a roller blind be cut or shortened?
A made to measure roller blind is made to the size on the order. The maker makes the blind to that width and chooses a tube to suit it, picked by the width of the blind and by whether it is chain or motor driven. A chain control or a motor then fits to that tube. That is why a finished blind is not something to trim at home.
Changes to a made to measure blind go through the retailer. They hold the order and can ask the maker what is possible for that blind and its fabric. At Speedy Blinds, a blind that needs to be narrower goes back to the factory through the retailer. It is not done on site, and a minimum amount has to come off.
What if my roller blind is the wrong size?
Tell your retailer first. Before you do, check what the order says.
- The width and the drop that were ordered.
- Whether the blind was ordered to fit inside the frame or outside it. The two fits are measured differently, and the order has to say which it is.
- Where the blind was measured to hang, and whether anything at the window, such as a handle or a deep sill, is in the way.
If the blind does not match the order, the retailer can raise it with the maker. If it matches the order but not the window, ask your retailer what the options are.
How wide and how long can a roller blind be?
There is no single figure that fits every blind, because the limit depends on the maker and the range. Ask your retailer for the limits of the range they are quoting. On a very wide window the tube can bow slightly in the middle under the weight of the fabric. That is normal, and two narrower blinds side by side can suit better than one wide one.
For length, a blind set inside the frame is made to suit the recess. A blind set outside the frame is made wider and longer than the opening so that it overlaps, which also covers more of the light around the edges. A chain blind stops wherever you leave it, but fully lowered, a blind that is too long runs past where you want it to finish, so say how you want it to finish when it is measured.
Do roller blinds come in standard sizes, and are they adjustable?
Speedy Blinds makes its roller blinds to order, each to the size on the order, so they do not come in set sizes. A blind bought ready made in a set size is a different product, and what can be done to it depends on that product and the seller, so ask them.
A roller blind is adjustable in the way you use it: it stops where you leave it, or at the limits a motor is set to. Its size is not adjustable once it is made.
Tell your retailer exactly where the blind will hang and whether it sits inside or outside the frame, and ask them to confirm the size on the order before it goes to the workroom. If you are not sure about a size, ask before you order, not after.

Can you cut motorised blinds?
Not at home. A motorised roller blind has its motor inside the tube, and the tube is chosen to suit the blind's width, so a size change goes through the retailer and the maker.
Can roller blinds be cut to width?
A finished made to measure blind is not cut to width at home. The width is set when it is made, and a change goes through the retailer.
What is the widest roller blind available?
There is no one figure, because it depends on the maker and the range. Ask your retailer for the limit on the range they are quoting.
Does it matter if a roller blind is too long?
Fully lowered, it runs past where you want it to finish. Say how you want it to finish when it is measured, and tell your retailer if it comes out wrong.
This answer is general information. For your own windows, your retailer's advice and your order with them come first.
