Curtains made up from your customer's own fabric
Yes. Speedy Blinds makes up curtains from fabric a retailer supplies, for suitable curtain work. We're trade only, so this is for window furnishing retailers and installers. Talk to us before you send the fabric.
What it's called
Customer's own fabric, COM, BYO fabric, a make up: they all mean the same job. You supply the fabric and we make the curtains. We call it BYO fabric, or sewing only.
Before you send anything
- Call us first on 0436 666 687. Fabric behaviour, faults, shortages, pattern placement and the supplier's care requirements all need working through before production starts.
- We'll tell you how much fabric the job needs. It's more than the finished curtain widths added together, because we allow for squaring the fabric, for the side hems and for cutting around faults.
- Tell us at order which way the pattern runs, whether the curtain is to be made continuous or railroaded, any pattern repeat and whether you want pattern matching, and whether a sheer has a weighted hem.
- It has to be drapery fabric. Upholstery fabric can't be used, and very stiff fabrics, fabrics with uneven threads and open netted fabrics can be difficult or unsuitable to sew.
If the pattern direction or railroading isn't specified, we use whichever method gives the cleanest finish and the least visible joins. Pattern matching happens only if you ask for it in writing at order, and it's charged separately.
Sending the fabric
The fabric has to be at our Thomastown factory before production. It needs to arrive clearly identified, in usable condition and with enough material for the job. We need the retailer, job and fabric details, so the roll can be received and allocated to the right job when it lands.
What happens at the factory
We record what we received and what we used. We don't unroll or inspect the whole roll before cutting. If a fault leaves too little usable fabric, we stop, tell you, and tell you how much more we need. Send the extra from the same dye lot: we don't check dye lots, and colour can vary from one to the next.
Have fabric of your own at home?
We only make for retailers, so take it to a window furnishing retailer, who measures, orders and installs. Don't have one? Get in touch with your suburb and we'll point you to a retailer who uses our workroom.
