How do you add or remove curtain track gliders?
Updated
Take the curtain's hooks off the runners first. On the Streamline track, runners (gliders) clip in from the back of the track. On the other track profiles, take the end cap off one end, slide runners in or out through the open end, then put the end cap back. On a Wave Fold or S Fold track the runners are joined at a set spacing, so ask your retailer before you change them.
Gliders, runners and carriers are the same part: the small pieces that slide in the track and carry the curtain's hooks or pendants. You may need to add some for a wider curtain, take some out, or replace one that has cracked.
Which track do you have?
How the runners go in depends on the track profile, the shape of the track. On the Streamline track, runners clip in from the back. On every other Speedy Blinds track profile they slide in from the end, once the end cap has come off. Your retailer can tell you which track you have.
How to add or remove gliders, step by step
- Lift the curtain's hooks or pendants off the runners, or take the curtain down.
- On the Streamline track, clip a new runner in from the back of the track, or unclip one to take it out.
- On the other track profiles, take the end cap off one end of the track. If that end is hard against a wall or out of reach, the track may need to come off its brackets first.
- Slide new runners in through the open end, or slide runners out of it.
- Put the end cap back firmly, and check the end stops are in place so the runners can't slide out of the ends.
- Hang the curtain again, with one hook or pendant on each runner.
Wave Fold and S Fold tracks
On a Wave Fold or S Fold track the runners are joined so they spread to a set spacing, and that spacing forms the wave. The number of runners has to match the curtain heading, so ask your retailer which part to order before you change them.
How many gliders do you need?
One for each hook or pendant in the curtain heading. Count the hooks or pendants on the curtain and you have the number of runners. For a new curtain, our Curtain Calculator works out the number of hooks.
Replacing a broken glider
A cracked or broken runner can usually be replaced without replacing the track, as long as the new one suits that track profile. Take the broken one out the same way the runners go in, and put the new one in its place.
If a runner won't go in or come out, don't force it. Your retailer can tell you which runners suit your track and order ones that fit. Speedy Blinds makes curtains and curtain tracks for retailers.

Take the curtain off the runners, then take the old runner out and put the new one in: from the back on the Streamline track, or through the end of the track with its end cap off on the other profiles.
How do you remove gliders from a curtain track?
Take the curtain off first. On the Streamline track, unclip them from the back. On the other track profiles, take the end cap off and slide them out of the open end.

Do I need to take the track down to add gliders?
Not always. If you can reach an end of the track and take its end cap off, runners can slide in with the track up. If that end is hard against a wall, the track may need to come off its brackets first. On the Streamline track they clip in from the back.
