What should I expect from linen curtains?
Expect linen curtains to show texture, creasing, slubs, yarn variation and some movement in the fabric as temperature and humidity change. These are characteristics of linen, not faults, and they're worth knowing about before you order, not after. Ask your retailer for a sample and the care information for the exact fabric.
The look comes from the fibre, the yarn, the weave and the finish. A sample shows the general character, but it can't show every variation that will appear across a full curtain drop.
Linen and other natural fibres respond to temperature, humidity, cleaning and handling. How much they move varies by fabric. There's no universal settling percentage or settling period, only whatever the fabric supplier publishes for that exact range.
Linen also creases readily during production, transport, installation and use. Check the supplier's care instructions before anyone applies steam, heat or a cleaning product to it.
Before you order
- Ask to see a physical sample where you can.
- Ask your retailer for the current composition and care information.
- Agree floor clearance or puddling with your retailer and have it written down.
- Check the collection and colour on your order are the ones you approved.
This answer is general information. For your own windows, your retailer's advice and your order with them come first.
